About Me

My name is Nick Murray, I’m 36 years old and live in Hong Kong. I have a wife, Lisa and two beautiful daughters, Hailey (5) and Chloe (2).
February 2010: Over the past 2 years, I have achieved some amazing things. I have lost over 18kg (40lbs), ran my first marathon and completed all three papers of one of the toughest professional exams in the world.
When I set out to achieve each of these three goals simultaneously, I benefited from the support of both my family and peers. Whilst privately they may have had their doubts, they continued to offer their sincere encouragement until I had completed all three.
Confucious said, “What the superior man seeks is within himself, what the ordinary man seeks is in others.”
I have been pondering over this statement a lot recently in the vacuum created after I achieved the above. I recognise that with few exceptions, I have been able to achieve anything that I have truly desired to. However, there has been something that I had really wanted to achieve for a long time, but up until now I had not built a sufficient desire to go after it.
For many years now, I have been fortunate to have been earning a multiple six figure income. Whilst I appreciate that this is already “a lot” of money by many peoples standards, I have come to the realisation that it is but a fraction of the multiple millions of dollars in value that I have consistently created for my employers. The compensation that I receive is sufficient enough to afford me a lifestyle that few people are fortunate enough to enjoy. However, it is a double edged sword in that the consistency of a monthly salary has been my greatest restraint in unlocking the potential that I know to be inside me.
Now I’m about to start my biggest challenge yet. In a couple of weeks I will be voluntarily cutting the cord with my employer and giving up my substantial regular pay check to embark on a goal of increasing my income ten-fold over the next 12 months. Unlike the previous challenges I have set myself, where I have enjoyed the full support of family, friends and colleagues, this time almost everyone is believes I will fail.
I truly believe that to make several million dollars in a year, just like running 42 km (26 miles) or completing the CFA exams is a lot easier than it is perceived to be. I intend to prove this over the coming months, not just once but several times over. As well as transforming my one life, I shall also be assisting a select number of others who have chosen to join me. You will learn of them, and our progress as this blog develops over the coming weeks and months.

What do you think? I am taking a bold and noble step, or being foolish, naive and reckless?
You have already proved many a times that you have it in you. Irrespective of the odds, when you feel that you can from deep within, you always will. Best of Luck Nick.
I think you are taking a bold step in your life. It sounds to me like you know what you want to do and have a plan on how to do it. As long as you think you are prepared emotionally and mentally to handle the task, I believe you can achieve your dream.
The fact that you were able to stick to a plan and lose all that weight tells me you can stay determined and focus on the task at hand. You seem to have a lot more drive than the usual person. I have trouble just sticking to a diet for more than 4 weeks!
I do wish you the best and hope that you will be an inspiration to everyone else that feels like they need or can do something more exciting with their abilities.
I wish you luck. If you are giving as much enthusiasm and effort into this effort as you have in the the weight loss and marathon running I am sure you will be successful in this endeavor as well.
Wow, I wish I could do that, that’s just amazing, everything you did!
I’m sure that your wife and daughters are proud of you!
Of course you are in taking a bold step in your life. Now you are in the right path and I am sure you will be an example person for many people to lead their life. I wish you all success.

WOW Nick,
I stumbled on your blog quite by chance and it is by chance I visit it again.
Cutting the cord with corporate cosy life is quite a step. I have done it voluntarily once (20 years ago) and was forced to do so 18 months ago.
Congrats on making it in HK, on losing all that weight (I already thought you looked much leaner in the pic) and on running the marathon.
All the best and keep in touch.
Cannot remember who bought dinner for whom in Geneva last time we met, but one of us is still owing the other one.
Cheers – Marc.
