I buy a lot of domains – at any one time I may have more than 100 domains registered for my various projects.

I used to be able to get a .com for $6.99, but now I’ve discovered how to get them even cheaper!

I have been using GoDaddy.com for managing these domains for several years now and whilst their check-out process lacks a lot to be desired, I have been very happy with their services.

In particular, I like having all of my information in one place which makes bulk updates to whois records a breeze and greatly simplifies the management of the 100’s email addresses that come along with all of these domains.

Their best feature for me though is the flexibility they give you over managing your DNS. I’ve always advocated separating DNS from hosting, and whilst I use Hostgator and Amazon AWS as my hosting companies, the DNS functionality of GoDaddy is far superior.

GoDaddy $6.99 .com Domain Deals

Previously, whenever I wanted to buy a new domain, or renew an old one, I always used to Google “GoDaddy”, because doing so invariably bought up their ad complete with a $6.99 .com offer.

Recently, they have stopped putting this offer in their ads, most likely because they were having to pay both the click and the discount.

Not wishing to pay $10.69 for something that used to cost me $6.99, I had taken to Googling for GoDaddy vouchers. There are a number of different $7.49 vouchers available, but that’s still more the $6.99 that I used to pay.

Then I remembered that they had an affiliate program, whilst their best offer is still $7.49, with commission, this takes be below the $6.99 that I used to pay, and I am happy again.

Everyone can benefit from $7.49 GoDaddy .com domains, all year round (your discount is given at the Check Out) by clicking on the add to the left.

If like me you buy lots of domains and want to get an even better, then sign up with their affiliate program at the bottom of their homepage here.

There are many Nick Murray’s, but only one can hold the Google #1 search result for the term “Nick Murray”.Today, Google is displaying my site on the 3rd page, at search result number 23. My goal is to get it to number 1 as quickly as possible and to keep it there. Up until now, I have had no need to rank highly in Google but I feel that my time has come.

I registered the domain nick-murray.com over 6 years ago. At the time, I had to settle for a hyphenated domain because nickmurray.com was already taken by, you’ve guessed it, some other guy called Nick Murray!

This other Nick Murray is a financial advisor, commentator, author and public speaker. He also owns the domain NickMurrayInteractive.com on which he runs an advisory subscription service.

Between his two domains, and links to his various books, audio programmes and third party reviews, the other Nick Murray currently appears in 6 out of the top 10 Google results on Google for the search term Nick Murray. In addition to his current Google domination, he has enjoyed the coveted number one slot for over 10 years!

For my blog to topple Nick from this lofty perch is going to be no easy task.

According to my tools and research, it should be possible, but how long it will take, I don’t know. I’m therefore going to document my progress and efforts over the coming weeks and let you know what does and doesn’t work.

You may have grabbed the better domain name Nick, but I’ll be darned if I’m going to let you hold onto that Google spot any more!

Bonus time is almost here. Tomorrow morning after confirming that my account has been credited, I shall be handing in my notice. I know that I will receive countless queries as to “why?” from my managers, colleagues, family and friends so I have decided to prepare a brief summary of 14 reasons why I have decided to quit.

I don’t want to have to wear clothes that require dry cleaning every day

I don’t want to have to travel to work at peak times and cram myself into an overcrowded train

I want to be able to use whatever technology and software that I choose (not the Lenovo ThinkPad, Windows XP, IE6 and Office 2003 that I have been forced to endure for the past 3 years)

I do not wish to be told which internet sites and services I can and cannot use

I want to be able to work when I feel at my most productive, rather than on-demand between 9.00am and 6.00pm

I want to spend my time and energy building assets that will generate a residual income rather than building “discussion points” on my CV

I want to focus my creative efforts on activities and projects that have a strong correlation between the effort I put in and the reward I receive

I wish to narrow the gap between the value that I create for others and the income that I receive

I do not want to have to compete for a share of the value created by others; I do not want to have others compete for the value that I create

I want to be able to leverage the ideas and efforts of others for the benefit of myself and my partners, rather than for the benefit of a faceless shareholder or management hierarchy

I want to focus my energy in developing and leveraging my strengths rather than being directed to develop my weaknesses

I want to receive sincere and candid feedback on my work and on the value that I create for others

I need a significant challenge like not having a regular income to rekindle the “fighting spirit” that I had much earlier in my career

I want the security that comes from knowing that I have the ability to independently generate as much income as I require

I’ll be back to let you know how it goes. More information about what I am planning to do, and why I fell confident of success can be found on my about page.

As you can see, the blog is still in “Development” stage. I’m closer to completing the theme and I’ve got a whole bunch of draft posts that are in a similar state of completeness.

I’m testing the theme in Firefox 2 and 3, Flock, Safari 3 and 4, Opera, IE 6 and 7 and getting it to render correctly in each browser and across multiple clients is no easy task. I’ve learnt a lot about how to accomplish this less painfully and will blog more on this as well as reveling some of the tricks I have used once I get up and running.

One priceless example I have discovered is that different browsers treat images, padding and margins with an odd number of pixels differently. Therefore always stick to an even number of pixels for image sizes and in your CSS. If this means cropping your images 1 pixel wider or narrower then so be it – trust me, it will save you a world of hurt!

There is still much work to do on this theme and the content before this blog is ready for launch. However, Since I can’t possibly test every combination of browser and OS, I would be extremely grateful if you could let me know in the comments on how this site looks for you (please don’t forget to include both your browser and your OS). Any comments or suggestions on the style, whether you like it or not are also welcomed.

Things I know need fixing are:

Fix the New Posts background so that it repeats nicely

Fix the hover over RSS Icon

Fix the spacing between the Sidebar headings and the content

Fix the Hyperlink CSS colours

Remove the white from the top and bottom left of the date tab image

Watch this space, or consider subscribing to the feed - great content will be coming soon…….
